I am Barbara Horsfield.  I was born Barbara Evelyn Loades at the old Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, Marylebone, London.  My parents lived in West Wickham, Kent where they brought up my two elder brothers and myself.  At the very end of the war, I was evacuated to Nottingham.  I attended Hawes Down Primary School, Beckenham & Penge County Grammar School for Girls and, finally, a secretarial college in Bromley.  My first job was with Eagle Oil & Shipping in London, followed by many years with IPC Business Press (formerly Associated Iliffe Press).  After marrying Tim we lived in Rochester and Meopham, Kent for many years.  Following the birth of our daughter, Natalie, we moved to Wythall, Worcestershire where we have remained.

During the time when Natalie was growing up and Tim was away from home working, I spent many years as a classroom assistant in her primary school, as well as being treasurer of the local WVRS Meals on Wheels kitchen.  Since those days, I have returned to work as a bookkeeper.

Currently I am a member of Hollywood WI.  I also enjoy playing badminton, cross stitch, travel, theatre and concerts, reading and genealogy, as well as keeping in touch with friends and school friends through letters and e-mails.

Of my two brothers, John is married to Valerie (with two sons) and David to Jennifer (with one son and two daughters).  Between them they have six grandchildren, which means I have three great-nephews and three great-nieces.
